pSeven 6.39 Release

pSeven development team announces the release of pSeven 6.39, a new version of our platform for data analysis and optimization. Take a look what's new in the release below.

Updates and Changes

Design space exploration block:

  • When you enable batch mode in the Adaptive design, Surrogate-based optimization, and Gradient-based optimization techniques, the Exploration budget setting that limits the total number of response evaluations is now interpreted with regard to the blackbox concurrency (parallelization ratio) p set by the Maximum batch size option value: in batch mode, Exploration budget now specifies the maximum allowed number of batches, where a batch contains up to p points at which responses are to be evaluated. Note that the Design space exploration block in batch mode can produce batches containing less than p points, depending on the technique you run.
This change makes the Design space exploration block behavior consistent regardless of whether you set it up with a blackbox that provides real concurrency in response evaluations, specified by the Maximum batch size option setting. In previous versions, given the maximum allowed number of batches to evaluate, say, equal to N, you had to set Exploration budget to N⋅p; as a result, the actual number of the evaluated batches could be more than N. This discrepancy is due to the fact that some batches may contain less than p points, while the Exploration budget limit was checked against the total number of the points evaluated, regardless of whether batch mode is enabled.

The changes described above affect the following:

  • The outcome of the Batch mode and Maximum batch size option settings.
  • The effect of the Exploration budget setting in batch mode.
